Q. What is the Dewey Color System? A. It's a personal tool that indicates: 1. Who you are 2. How you relate to others 3. How you make decisions 4. Solve problems 5. Approach the world
Millions of homeowners love color but are afraid to use it. Now they can hire a certified Dewey Color Consultant to do it for them! Dewey color experts are trained to conduct in-home consultations that recommend by-room-exact paint, fabric, and accessory colors without the fear of a color mismatch.
Q. Is this a new concept? A. Until now, consumers made random color selections without knowing why. But this entirely new design-décor service goes beyond random selection. Dewey Color Consultants skillfully guide homeowners on a personal empowerment journey with a Dewey Color personality test. Then, the patented Dewey Color Coordinator’s 25,000 no-mistake combinations are used to ease homeowner “color phobia” and take the fear out of color selection.
Q. What exactly will a consultant do for me? A. Part One: Consists of a homeowner choosing their favorite colors, from our test, in order to make their home a scared place—a personal expression of them. They learn why these color selections are appealing and are then advised of their “comfort colors”-the spectrum hues that sooth and inspire them. From these comfort colors, paint, fabric, and accessory color palettes are established.
Part Two: Fuses practicality and passion. The Dewey Color Consultant, using the patented Dewey Color Coordinator, goes room-by-room, skillfully addressing issues and concerns regarding decor walls, and accessories that tie in a theme and establish a requested mood.
Even the do-it-yourselfer will avoid a costly color faux pas with the Dewey Consultant’s recommended, leave-behind paint chips, fabric, and accessory color swatches. With the anxiety and expense of color guesswork gone, the homeowner is able to experience easy, stress-free, color coordinated, and all-about-them color palettes. Now that we’ve deciphered the language of color, why not use it to change our lives by changing our decor?Back to top
Q. Will my Consultant be an expert? A. Yes. Our color certification course teaches Consultants how to select precise, perfect color combinations for each homeowner, without the fear of making an expensive color mismatch. Certified Dewey Color Consultants are experts at measuring, selecting, AND coordinating color combinations that reflect and inspire the client.
Q. Is the System validated? A. Yes. The Dewey Color System is the world’s only validated, color-based personality testing instrument (Publishing in the North American Journal of Psychology). It scientifically predicts the recognized major psychometric personality factors without language. The System has validated against two of America’s most respected testing instruments—The Strong Interest Inventory® (career counseling) and the 16PF® (clinical).

Q. Can color really change mood? A. Definitely. Our System has scientifically validated what everyone intuitively knows—that each color hue has a distinguishable quality. This energy, emitted through light, bears a physical characteristic that each person reacts to differently.
When a person surrounds themselves with their preferred colors, they are in fact subconsciously encouraging their hopes and aspirations. Non-Preferred colors irritatingly give them the courage to see what they have a tendency to avoid.
By using the Dewey Color System’s color preference methodology, homeowners will improve the quality of their daily lives. After they have implemented their chosen colors, they will acquire their selected strengthens (i.e. discipline, focus, resourcefulness and so forth) and gain the impetus to better relate to and challenge the world around them. _______________________
What can make color selection even more difficult, to the untrained eye is that every color appears to change:
1. Depending on the other colors surrounding it (as shown in the paint chips on the left side of this page)
2. Depending on the amount & type of indoor and outdoor lighting. Different lighting throws off a different hue on top of wherever it lands and definitely will effect the appearance of each color. For example: incandescent bulbs adds a yellow hue ...Sunlight is the closest to perfect color display.
DID YOU KNOW....... that major paint manufacturers have hundreds of white paint chips from which to choose? And there are over 10,000 paint colors available from all the major companies? Add to that the selections of wall textures, tile, faux processes and the selection can be overwhelming.

Color Choices Can Impact Your Health:
"Everyone has basic color preferences, special colors we love or are attracted to and other colors we hate or would never wear. There is more going on there, though, than meets the eye.
For example, we know that exposure to warm colors such as red, orange and yellow tends to increase blood pressure while exposure to cool colors such as green, blue and even black has the opposite effect. However, it is not as commonly known, however, that there are alternative medical treatments that employ color in an effort to heal.
Yellow is said by practitioners to activate the motor nerves and generate energy for muscles; therapists use it to treat arthritis, rheumatism, digestive problems, eczema and constipation.
Orange is used by therapists to treat asthma, colds and thyroid problems. But orange also produces nervousness and restlessness. So use it with caution. Orange in a home could be used as an accent color or in a pattern with other colors.
A bright pink, like magenta, offers a sense of contentment. Some even call it the color of universal healing. This is another great accent color and can be used alone or in combination with other colors such as blue for great contrast and vibrancy.
If cool colors are preferred, the best use would be in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Blues send off feelings that are soothing and sedating type. Color therapists even use it as a tonic, claiming it has antiseptic qualities. Too much blue or exclusively blue rooms, however, will tend to bring on depressing moods so it is best to add another color for balance.
What about neutrals? They can be used anywhere because they are easy to live with and comfortable for everyone. Earth tones dispel depression and create a sense of balance and security.
